What The…? has just returned from recording at House of David studios May 18th in Nashville, TN, in the heart of Music Row. In the can are the basic tracks for the last three songs that had yet to be recorded for their upcoming CD.
By sheer coincidence, the session featured one song written by each of the three band members: “Lost,” a jangly Lee Flier composition reminiscent of the Byrds/REM on steroids; “You’ve Gotta Take the Blame,” a scathing garage-rock barn burner written by Lyle; and drummer Eskil jumps on the songwriting bandwagon with “That’s Why,” an anthemic arena-rocker that pays tribute to musicians everywhere who passionately pursue their craft with little reward.
Presiding at the session was Bob Olhsson, a legendary engineer who worked at Motown Studios in Detroit during its heyday. Bob brought his usual passion, enthusiasm and invaluable input to the proceedings, not to mention a pair of killer vintage microphones!
As they have for the majority of this record, the band recorded on analog tape for that big rock’n'roll sound! Stay tuned for further news on the release of the new CD, to be titled “Lost In This World.”
